Logitech Cordless Notebook Stand |
|
Much more comfortable to have a "real keyboard". Eliminates the multi-key striking problem that I have with my laptop keyboard. It's also nice to have the screen up where it can be viewed without looking down. I bought one for my office where I can plug my printer and camera into the USB ports on the stand instead of having an "octopus" of wires that I have connect ever day to my laptop. I liked it so much I bought one for my home office. A great product. |

Logitech Alto Cordless -- Awesome keyboard! |
I have had my keyboard for a few weeks now, and I love it! I had been hesitant to buy a cordless keyboard for several years now, since the last one I bought (a Kensington) had poor reception and was worse to type on than my laptop! However, I was looking for something that I could bring to school, because my neck and shoulders would hurt after working at the desks there. I liked that the alto closes up so that keys are protected in transport.
The best part is that the keyboard feels great! It is not mushy like my Microsoft keyboard, but it is quieter than my laptop keyboard and just as responsive. The vertical home/end/page up/page down buttons took some getting used to--for a while I kept deleting things when I was looking for another key (no big deal wit Ctrl+Z). And the keyboard rocks a little when the back tilt stand is flipped out. Everything else about the keyboard is perfect.
The keyboard stand is nice, too. I set it up next to my lcd monitor at home, and the position of the dual screens is very usable. I didn't care about the USB ports when I bought this, but they have definitely come in handy. Note that you don't need to plug in the power adapter unless you are using a usb device which draws a particularly large amount of power (eg., portable hard drive). I plug anything that draws power directly into my laptop and then less power-intensive devices into the alto stand. I've never used the power adapter and never had problems.
The main drawback for me is its weight and its closure mechanism. I think that it uses a magnetic closure which is both heavy and not secure (it will stay in place in your bag, but I wouldn't hold it with just the base, or the keyboard would probably fall off). It *just* fits in my largish rolling computer bag, but a smaller bag would not hold it.
PROS:
* Responsive, comfortable keyboard
* Semi-portable
* Convenient laptop stand
* USB ports
CONS:
* Weight
* No way to latch it closed
* Nonstandard layout of Home/End/Page Up/Page Down keys
* Non-adjustable stand
* The flip-out feet on the back of my keyboard are not aligned properly, so the keyboard rocks when using that... very annoying, but not a deal-breaker for me.
* No mouse included is okay, but would have been nice to have a track point, touchpad, or trackball on the keyboard. |

Super Convenient and Sleek |
The Logitech Alto Cordless Notebook stand works very well. Bought it for my husband who is anxious to get rid of his desktop and use his laptop on a regular basis--but having "man hands" the keyboard on the laptop can be difficult He writes for a living so he needs to be comfortable.
The stand is a perfect setup for him, his new Dell fits it perfectly. The keyboard is very nice. The keys are silent and have a good feel to them.
I would highly recommend this product. |

Mostly good with a little bad |
When I first got this product Logitech Alto Cordless Notebook Stand I thought it was a little expensive for the features it added. USB ports / Stands / and a lot of wireless keyboards are fairly cheap.
After a while though - I realized that I loved this unit.
On my desk - it raises the screen of my Laptop almost to eye level while keeping it out of the way. The keyboard is light an responsive. It weighs in at 5 lbs - about half as much as my 15" Compaq and is about 2" wider.
When traveling - the stand and keyboard lock together and are small enough that they fit in my cheap Wall-Mart case. It might be a little heavy - but it works for me.
Now the down side.
The front lip prevents anything from being plugged into the front of a laptop. It also prevents the laptop from closing. At present - I have 2 bottle caps sitting between that lip and the front of my 15" Compaq. They give me just enough space to plug in my headset jacks.
Then there are the "Now why did they do that" questions.
The first is Power. The base contains 3 USB jacks and a receiver for the keyboard. All of which could have been powered directly from the USB. Instead - we have an extra AC power plug with a small transformer to power it. Further - the transformer / power plug is a unique detachable design. That is great until you loose the power plug part - which is very easy to do.
The second is the receiver they built into it. It is only handles the keyboard. So you will still need to plug in a receiver for your mouse.
Logitech could have given this product a little more thought - and provided a lot of options for it. A Speaker-Mike jacks option - you name it - they didn't think of it.
At any rate - after 6 months - the transformer for the Alto died. That made the keyboard's receiver and those extra USB ports useless. 6 more pounds in the trash?
Not quite. The stand is still functional. A little digging produced an old bulky receiver from a Mouse / Keyboard unit - it works quite well with the keyboard. |
