The Logitech MX Air optical mouse tracks motion even after you lift it off the surface, making it great for home theater PC users and presentations. In the air, it works like a cross between a remote control and a wand as you simultaneously wave the mouse in all directions and press its buttons to navigate. It sounds wieldy to use, but I was able to get the hang of it within a few minutes. Holding the mouse in my palm like a remote control, the cursor ably followed my hand movement but it got a little tricky trying to hone in on smaller icons and button selections. Another issue was I'd often catch myself in an awkward hand position while still needing the cursor to go in a certain direction. But with the freeze button, I could hold the cursor steady and recenter my hand into a more comfortable position. For desktop use, optical sensitivity was comparable to other mice and picked up subtle movements, however the mouse did not have any side buttons that I am used to for back and forward browsing. The extra buttons (back, volume, play/pause) are placed in the middle of the mouse, which are easily accessible when you hold the mouse in the air, but not so much for desktop use because your palm sits directly over them. The SetPoint software can customize the buttons into functions that you may ordinarily use, such as copy and undo. I was also able to fine tune the cursor and scroll speed for even greater control. The mouse definitely stands out on your desktop, its sleek black design might fool you into thinking it's something else, but upon touch the buttons light up to display each function. The shiny plastic casing doesn't feel cheap, but the smoothed look seems prone to scratches. The mouse also tracked up dirt pretty easily within a few days of use, however a cleaning cloth is provided. The smooth design is conspicuously missing a scroll wheel. That's because that section of the mouse is a touch panel sensor where you directly slide your finger up and down. It's a surprisingly comfortable and natural feel, and you start to wonder how you ever got by with wheels. The rechargeable lithium ion battery typically provided about 20 hours of use. After placing the mouse onto the base charger, it took about two hours to reach a full charge. I was able to get a workable range of about 30 feet from the receiver before the signal went out. Overall, it's a nifty mouse that shows its stuff in the air, a convenient device for home theater PC's and couch browsing as well as a more versatile tool than a laser pointer in presentations. --Bradley Tran Pros: - Excellent range of up to about 30 feet

It's cool but not accurate at all...1st gen model needs work |
The plus sides: Fast scrolling (like the MX Revolution), decent tabletop accuracy.
The minus sides: Always deviates to the right hand side, trying to center the pointer is almost impossible. If you want to be waving your hands wildly in the air to try to get the pointer on the place you want to be this mouse is for you. 1st generation air technology obviously has a long way to go. I have 2 MX Revolution mice and they are hands down the best wireless mice yet. No picking up the mice to reset the laser. I have an MX1000 and an MX900. They are both finicky (but not bad considering their age). Not the MX Revolution. Buy that one instead. Unless of course you ABSLOUTELY need air control, and even then the Revolution moused on your pants does a better job.
Ergonomics are as bad...5 buttons on the top that work, but provide no real useful function, espcially how difficult the pointer is to control. Plastic body is worse quality than expected, especially for the price.
It needs it's own remote sensor, the 2 that I have (1 for the DiNovo keyboard, 1 for the MX Revolution mouse), won't work... so that's 3 USB ports required, and trust me, they don't have an all in one solution...no thanks.
The charging unit is different from all the other previously made Logitech mice and you will need to have 2 docking stations if you have another Logitech mouse to be able to charge it...another pain.
Overall rating: Unacceptable. Sent back for credit. |

life saver but terrible battery life |
I work long hours in front of a computer and was having repetitive stress issues in my right wrist. It got to the point where is was painful to use the mouse. This product was a lifesaver, because it allows me to elevate the mouse, and use it like a pointer. This allows me to keep my wrist basically sraight, which has alleviated a huge amount of stress on my wrist. I can now use the mouse pain free, switching hands if I need to. I highly recommend this product to anyone who has repetitive stress issues in their hand or wrist.
There major downside to this product is battery life. The battery is rechargable, and will last for only about 4 to 6 hours of continuous use. I have two of them so that one can charge when the other is in use. This works out well.
The mouse also takes some getting used to. It has some sort of internal calibrating device that takes a little getting used to. It is powerful enough to work from across the room which is neat. Overall I give this product a B+/A-, marked down for poor battery life. |

Great but design is flawed |

First and foremost, the mouse is very beautiful, and is great if you plan to utilize it as an air mouse for movies. I like to watch movies on the computer from bed. The problem with this mouse are the top buttons. While they are very innovative, like the touch sensor scroll button, they are also kind of a pain to use. the buttons were placed to be useful when the mouse is being used in the air, not as a regular mouse, and not having a side button, or a scroll wheel can be frustrating, especially if you find yourself using them often. instead of a mouse wheel, you have a cool touch sensor, which is really innovative, but not as easy or practical as just a wheel. The mouse is a bit half baked as it's a multi-purpose device, not quite an air mouse, and not quite a mouse. The mouse uses accelerometers in the air, so unlike the Wii, it doesn't need to be pointed at the screen. this can leed to some problems, but are easily overcome and are a small price to pay, if you use it for home situations They say it's great for presentations, it isn't. it'll get some "owwws" and "ahhs", but you will find yourself fumbling with it in a professional situation, and thats not good. It would be a great mouse if there was a side button, and the scroll button could be more programable, as the settings for it are a bit tight, the touch sensor for the "wheel" button is also pressure sensitive, and not heat sensitive, which many touch sensors are moving towards, as a result, I find myself often scrolling either way too slow, or way way faster than I wanted. I guess there's a learning curve there that I haven't quite mastered, but for a product like this, there's clearly room for improvement, however I still recommend the device, just make sure you have a backup mouse in extreme situations. |

Aesthetics over ergonomics |

If you like CONSTANTLY recentering your cursor then you will love this mouse. The "Always On" nature of the cursor is problematic. Logitech created a beautiful product at the expense of functionality. Desktop function is fine. Airmouse function is laborious. Some of these reviews appear to have been written by the Logitech marketing dept. It is sexy looking though. The Gyration mouse competetor is clunkier looking but way more user friendly. |

Logitech MX Air Cordless Air Mouse |
I exercise routinely on a stationary bicycle trainer that operates a computer driven video of courses/programs and, when seated on the bike, I am about 10-12 feet from the TV monitor. From atop the bike, I want to control the PC application, including switching training programs, video courses, parameters, etc. I tried a regular wireless mouse, but the range was only 6 ft or so -- not quite enough. This air mouse extends well beyond the minimun distance I need and works quite well. My only gripe is that there does not appear to be a right mouse click option (for selecting/disabling system tray apps). Other than that, I can easily and reliably execute the various mouse commands to launch the app, change menu options, select different courses, etc., without having to dismount the bike until I am finished riding. Nice solution!
