Description |
A Profile of Courage Left for Dead is a documentary about an Ohio schoolteacher, born and raised in Newcastle, Pennsylvania, who forms a company, fights in some of the deadliest battles of the Civil War, gets shot through the face and is left for dead at the Battle of Corinth, Mississippi. He recovers to build a successful life, courageously overcoming lingering effects of the bullet still lodged in his head. "In making Left for Dead, we wanted to tell the heroic story of a young man’s courage and character," explained Mark Bussler, the director. "At an age where today’s young men are still in school, this man formed a military unit and fought in many of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War." Battle sequences were recreated from Oscar Jackson’s diary entries in his book, "The Colonel’s Diary". One powerful scene in the production occurs when Jackson describes in his own words, "Looking for the dead on the battlefield was similar to hunting for strawberries in a meadow." |

The eyes of a reenactor |
When you watch this dvd....you can see it is made for a town hero, and not just to make a film of the Civil War. Now with that sayed, the dvd is nice in the way it was done. But since I am a Civil War Reenactor, and do the things seen in this dvd almost every weekend, I can see alot of little things that drive me nuts. Like there is a part where a A soldier puts on his bayonet and does not lock it, and pretends to use it, and the whole time I am waiting for it to fall off. I know that sounds petty, but when you do it and see it done wrong and can drive you nuts. Besides that, the acting is bad, and sound almost as bad, but beside that, the way it is done is fresh and if you can get away from the things that get to me, and you enjoy knowing new storys from the eyes of someone who was there, and have a love of the Civil War, then this dvd is for you. |

Great Civil War history piece! |
I love historical documentaries, and "Left for Dead" certainly didn't disappoint. It's always great to learn something new about such a prolific event as the Civil War, and the fact that this is based in local history makes it even better. Very detailed, action-packed and informative - I definitely learned a thing or two! |
